Yo no voy a decir nada, pero...

Este post, esta dedicado a mi bisabuela, la abuelita Ofie.

Es ahora, cuando empiezo a conocer el trabajo que hizo mi abuela por su comunidad. Al leer los reconocimientos, los mensajes y el agradecimiento que le tienen las organizaciones y las personas con las que trabajo y vivio, me doy cuenta que hay mucho mas detras de ella, que la imagen de mi abuelita de cabello blanco (en chongo antes, corto ahora), con baston, y un caracter que dulce a veces, muy fuerte muchas otras y que nos visitaba cada navidad para llenarnos de caramelos, visitas al museo y uno que otro coscorron...

Su obituario dice...

Ofelia Sanchez Vargas passed away December 27, 2006. Born in Morenci, Az on July 31, 1910. She worked 25 years for the State Dept. posted in American embassies in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Japan, Indonesia, Peru, Canada, and Israel. Upon retirement in 1967 she moved to Tucson and began work in the community. Some charitable efforts included president of Pio Decimo and League of Mexican American Women, member of Tucson Bicentennial Committee, Newman Center Sustaining Board, interpreter for UMC, and volunteer for various historical societies and American Red Cross. She was recommended for outstanding service by the City of Tucson, 20 de agosto Committee, and other organizations. She received the Jefferson Award (1985), YWCA “Women on the Move” (1995), and La Doña de Tucson (2000) in recognition of Lifetime Achievement. She was preceded by her daughter Maria Vargas and son Armando Vargas. She is survived by her sister Leonarda Felix, brother Otto Sanchez, son Hector Vargas, daughter Lucila Arvizu, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Memorial service will be held January 6, 2007 at 11:00 at the St. Thomas Moore Newman Center, 1615 E 2nd St.
